(Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds today announced the approval of Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, and Union Counties for FEMA Public Assistance under the previously approved Major Disaster Declaration for Iowa counties where significant damage was sustained from severe storms and tornadoes that occurred April 26-27, 2024, and continuing.

Early FOCUS Is Celebrating Town’s 142nd Birthday This Weekend With Annual Crossroads Days Event
The Early FOCUS committee invites everyone to celebrate the town’s 142nd birthday with the annual Early Crossroads Days this weekend. Scheduled events begin tonight (Friday) with the bags tournament by the library and BINGO in the basement of City Hall. Tomorrow (Saturday) has a full lineup of events, with fun for kids and adults. Registration for the Butcher Shoppe Car Show opens at 8:00 a.m., and entries for the BIG Parade can sign up starting at 8:30 a.m. at Ridge View Middle School. Following the parade at 10:00 a.m. is a free-will donation lunch at the Shelter House, with all proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Library organization. The afternoon is jam-packed and full of fun, from hay rides, face painting, and the always anticipated water fights with the Early Fire Department, which start at 12:30 p.m. for the kids and the adults at 2:00 p.m. The evening meal, sponsored by the Early FOCUS group, will be in the City Hall basement from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The night will finish with cow pie bingo and the Early Legion Beer Garden, with live entertainment from Cotton Creek Entertainment D.J. All these events and more are scheduled for the Early Crossroads Days, which begins tonight (Friday) and through tomorrow (Saturday). The complete schedule is included below.
CCSD School Board Approved Of $213K Project For Fairview Playground Resurfacing
The Carroll Community School District’s Fairview Elementary playground will look a little different for the upcoming school year, with the resurfacing project approved during Monday’s Board of Education meeting. GameTime with Cunningham Recreation has been awarded the contract to resurface the area, replacing the woodchips with a soft, rubber surface. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says the district is looking to spend just over $213,000 for this project for two main reasons.

Economic development will be the primary focus of the Carroll City Council’s upcoming meeting on Monday. The council convenes at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall on July 22.
