    Louisiana Festivals & Events Happening this Weekend: May 2 through May 5

    The first weekend of May features some of the most exciting festivals of the year. Celebrate music, crawfish, herbs, catfish, and Louisiana heritage.

    Thibodaux Firemen's Fair - Thibodaux - May 2, 3, 4, 5

    1101 Tiger Drive

    Held at the Thibodaux Fire Dept. Fairgrounds, the Thibodaux Firemen's Fair offers live entertainment, South Louisiana food, rides, an auction, and a parade. Puddle of Mud is the musical headliner with Keith Frank & The Soileau Zydeco Band, Ryan Foret & Foret Tradition, Andrea Rhodes, Kings of Neon, Krossfyre, Travis Denning, and many more also appearing.

    A $15,000 raffle will be held at the end of the fair.

    Alex River Fete - Alexandria - May 2, 3, 4

    915 Third Street

    Celebrating the arts, culture, and heritage of Central Louisiana, Alex River Fete is a three-day long festival combining several local events. Guests can enjoy art, food, street performers, live music, crafts displays, childrens' activities, and ongoing entertainment during Dinner on the Bricks, Artwalk, Indie Village, and Que'in on the Red.

    Musical guests include Cowboy Mouth, Lil' Nate, Chase Tyler, Marc Broussard, and more.

    Hours are:

    • Thursday, 5 PM to 9 PM
    • Friday, 4 PM to 10:30 PM
    • Saturday, 10 AM to 10:30 PM

    This is a free event.

    New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival - May 2, 3, 4, 5

    1751 Gentilly Blvd.

    The second weekend of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival proves to be just as exciting as the first weekend.

    Top musical acts include:

    • The Rolling Stones
    • Foo Fighters
    • Steel Pulse
    • Queen Latifah
    • Neal Young
    • Bonnie Raitt
    • Earth, Wind & Fire
    • The Wallflowers

    Also enjoy cultural exhibits, art, crafts, and lots of delicious food.

    Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival - May 3, 4, 5

    1290 Rees Street

    A Breaux Bridge tradition since the 1960, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival features crawfish eating contests, crawfish races, cooking contests, a crawfish etouffee cookoff, Cajun and Zydeco dance lessons, a parade, food, music, midway rides, arts & crafts, and so much more.

    Admission prices are:

    • Friday - $10
    • Saturday - $15
    • Sunday - $5
    • Weekend pass - $25

    Parking is available behind the festival grounds for $5 per day.

    May Fest - Leesville - May 3 & 4

    201 S. Third Street

    A two-day festival featuring Louisiana artists, performers, gospel groups, and cuisine, May Fest is held in historic downtown Leesville. Bring lawn chairs, an appetite, and your dancing shoes.

    Admission is free.

    El Camino Real de Los Tejas "Sale on the Trail" - Many - May 3 & 4

    1601 Texas Highway

    Flea markets, yard sales, trade shows, sidewalk sales, and more provide a wonderful weekend of touring and shopping from Nacogdoches, TX, to Natchitoches, LA. This "Sale on the Trail" connects shoppers with products offered by land owners and businesses along the way.

    Sunset Herb & Garden Festival - Sunset - May 4

    235 Marie Street

    A garden enthusiast's dream, the Sunset Herb & Garden Festival features plants, herbs, herbal products, garden art, pottery, a Kids's Corner, a fairie garden, and workshops. Food trucks will be onsite. Bring your wagon for purchases.

    Admission is $5; free for children 6 and under.

    South Franklin Catfish Festival - Wisner - May 4

    9530 Natchez Street

    Held in downtown Wisner, South Franklin Catfish Festival feautures fried catfish, music, a car show, and arts and crafts. $5 parking will be available directly across Highway 14. No pets are allowed.

    Morehouse May Madness Street Festival - Bastrop - May 4

    100 E Madison Avenue

    A street festival celebrating Morehouse Parish, Morehouse May Madness Street Festival features an art exhibit, a motorcycle exhibit, music, a kids' zone, a classic car exhibit, farmers' market activities, food, and vendors.

    Admission and parking are free.

    Le Grande Boucherie de Mallet - Mallet - May 4

    7248 Highway 190

    St. Ann Catholic Church on Hwy. 190 in Mallet is the setting for music and Creole food from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday, May 4, at Le Grande Boucherie de Mallet. There will be boudin, cracklins, pork stew, BBQ, ice cream, drinks, and homemade sweets for sale. Children can enjoy fun jumps and a barrel ride. Music will be provided by DJ Big Red and JoJo Reed. Bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

    Admission is free.
