    Mid-August is the beginning of the fall festival season. Here's what's going on around the state this weekend.

    Delcambre Shrimp Festival - August 14, 15, 16, 17, 18

    409 E. Main Street

    Honoring the shrimping industry, the 72nd annual Shrimp Festival features a shrimp cookoff, live entertainment, carnival rides, fais-do-dos, a boat parade, queens' pageants, a food court, and much more.

    There will be no gate fee on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday; $10 gate fee on Friday and Saturday.

    Geek'd Con - Shreveport - August 16, 17, 18

    400 Caddo Street

    Held inside the Shreveport Convention Center, Geek'd Con is Shreveport's Comic Con. The event will include over 200 vendor booths, celebrity guests, and lots of family-friendly fun.

    Cucuzza Day - Independence - August 17

    During Cucuzza Day, the Independence Italian Cultural Museum will celebrate the sizable summer squash known as cucuzza. Enjoy cucuzza cooking and growing contests, and take home a packet of seeds.
