An epic vacation may be found within your home state

It's that time of year when people are getting ready to plan vacations for the summer. Some people have a ritual of visiting the same beach every year, while others like the adventure of discovering new places.

If you enjoy beautiful locations that aren't overrun with tourists, this Pennsylvania beach might be for you. It made the Family Destinations Guide list of "America's Favorite 100 Secret Beaches."

Located in western Pennsylvania in southern Beaver County, Raccoon Creek State Park made the cut, coming in at number 34 out of 100. Family Destinations Guide said that 3,000 families in America were surveyed to compile this list.

The Racoon State Park website says that it is one of PA’s “largest and most visited state parks,” and “encompasses 7,527 acres and features the beautiful 101-acre Racoon Lake.”

The website lists its top activities as hiking, camping, sunbathing at the beach, and visiting he concession for ice cream as well as exploring the lake via kayak, canoe, row boat, or hydro bike. It also has an exquisite wildflower reserve.

The site says the park is open every day of the year, and online reservations can be made here.

For Pennsylvanians wanting to leave the Keystone State for their vacation, number five on the Family Destinations Guide is nearby at New Jersey's Sedge Island. The guide writes that it is “home to a hidden beach that offers visitors a unique and secluded coastal experience.”

“The beach can only be accessed by boat, making it a truly exclusive destination,” according to the site. “Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by soft sands and calm waters that are perfect for swimming and sunbathing.”
