Amazon-Linked Developers Want to Build Distribution Warehouse Between Pullman and Moscow
PULLMAN - Amazon-linked development companies have filed an application to build a distribution warehouse off the Moscow-Pullman Highway. “Project Cougar” is being proposed by Ambrose Property Group and Kimley-Horn. The companies have built distribution centers for Amazon around the country. The application to Whitman County doesn’t include any reference to the online retail giant based out of Seattle.

Campaign to Close Pay Gap Deficit for Women in Washington
A campaign to close the gender pay gap in Washington called Activate 3.8 was launched by the Washington Women's Commission (WSWC) June 28th in Seattle. A study the National Partnership for Women and Families was reported by The Center Square claims women in Washington earned $18,400 less in wages than men in 2022. The gap is the second largest in the nation, behind Utah. There is a combined annual total of more than $1.6 trillion in gender pay gap in the U.S.
Fire burning off Keys Road in Yakima
--*Update*-- The latest updates as of 5:47 p.m. is that the fire has burnt about 25 acres, with roughly 60 people working on the fire. The Department of Natural Resources told us it started roughly within 100 yards from the previous Keys Road Fire about two weeks ago. This is a new fire and not a continuation from the previous one.
Supreme Court Ruling Paves Way for Yakima to Address Homelessness
The Yakima City Council is expected to talk about homelessness this month after the U.S. Supreme court released a ruling that says it's okay for cities to ban people from sleeping or living in public places.The court, in a 6-3 decision, reversed a previous ruling which found banning people from sleeping in outdoor public spaces is a violation of the 8th amendment. The original ruling was made by an appeals court in San Francisco.
18+ pounds of cocaine mixed with fentanyl seized during traffic stop on I-70
Law enforcement seized 18 pounds of cocaine mixed with fentanyl along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition during a traffic stop on I-70 near Gypsum. The Gore Range Narcotic Interdiction Team made the stop about 1 p.m. on June 19. During the traffic stop, the G.R.A.N.I.T.E. task force observed criminal activity and both the driver and passenger consented to a vehicle search. That search turned up 500 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 3 weapon magazines, and 4 cellphones. They also discovered seven packages weighing over 18 pounds. Investigators said presumptive tests indicated that each package contained cocaine and fentanyl. Both the driver and passenger were arrested on suspicion of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. The driver, Pedro David Corral Leon, 22 of Yakima, Washington remains in custody on a $100,000 bond. The passenger, Rafael Zazueta, 19 of Norfolk, Nebraska, remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.

Running Start applications for fall quarter open through August 8
Applications are currently being accepted for Yakima Valley College’s Running Start Program for fall quarter 2024. The Running Start Program offers eligible high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to enroll in college classes at YVC’s Yakima and Grandview campuses, as well as online courses, and receive both high school and college credit without having to pay tuition. Public, private and homeschool students are eligible for Running Start.
