Tasha Potter named next Penfield schools superintendent
The Penfield school board Monday announced Tasha Potter as its next superintendent. Potter is currently the assistant superintendent for equity and access, a position she has held since 2021. Before that she was the director of diversity and equity planning for Monroe-1 BOCES and an administrator in the Greece Central School District.

14 cameras are busting speeders on several roads in New York State this week. The radar was installed as part of legislation, signed into law in September 2022. The cameras move around the state every week to different construction zones in an effort to get drivers to take their foot off the gas and keep workers safe.

A number of tri-state area residents reported feeling a shaking or hearing a loud boom Tuesday morning leading to quite the mystery. NASA is estimating a meteor passed through the area between 10 a.m. and noon and would account for people saying they saw a fireball in the sky. NASA said simultaneous military activity in the area may account the shaking or boom residents felt.

Thousands without power across Rochester area due to thunderstorms
Thousands of homes and businesses in the Rochester area are without power as thunderstorms continue to sweep across the area. RG&E is asking people on the west side of Canandaigua Lake to reduce their energy use until 9 p.m. Tuesday by turning off air conditioners and other non-essential appliances. The utility said, due to extensive pole damage, it will have to create an outage disrupting service into Wednesday night if usage is not reduced.

Another year of growth for Saint’s Place
Saint’s Place helped 198 refugees in May—its busiest month ever. The fiscal year is shaping up to be the most successful year yet, with over 1,500 new refugees assisted. The Pittsford-based nonprofit also helped set up 285 homes and bedding for 1,100 new beds with pillows, blankets, two sets of sheets and a comforter.
