Meteor passed over NYC, Statue of Liberty Tuesday: NASA
A number of tri-state area residents reported feeling a shaking or hearing a loud boom Tuesday morning leading to quite the mystery. NASA is estimating a meteor passed through the area between 10 a.m. and noon and would account for people saying they saw a fireball in the sky. NASA said simultaneous military activity in the area may account the shaking or boom residents felt.
U.S. News & World Report names Stony Brook University Hospital among Best Hospitals in New York
Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has been recognized as a 2024-25 Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, ranking in the top 15 in the state. SBUH climbed to a No. 12 ranking overall in New York State out of more than 153 hospitals statewide, up from No. 13 in the state last year. In addition to ranking in the top 8% overall in New York State, SBUH also rated high performing in 5 adult specialties nationwide, including Geriatrics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery. Salamanca Dominates Olean to Win 11-1
SALAMANCA, NY — It’s not often that two teams combine for more runs than hits, but that is what happened Sunday night in Salamanca. The Oilers were dominated by the Lizards, who scored more runs than the Oilers had base runners. With a total of eight base runners for the entire game, the Oilers fell to the Lizards 11-1. Pitcher Matt Marsh suffered his first loss of the season, allowing six runs off four hits, walking five and hitting two batters. The Oilers are home on Tuesday for their final regular season home game, which is against the Dansville Gliders. It is the team's fan appreciation game, and admission is free. The Hudson Valley has fallen victim to a slew of cyber attacks in recent months, compromising important information from both local organizations and individuals. Cyberattack complaints in New York state increased 53% between 2016 and 2022, jumping from 16,426 incidents in 2016 to 25,112 in 2022, according to the FBI. The number of attacks targeting critical infrastructure in New York state nearly doubled to 83 in the first half of 2023 compared to 48 during the entirety of 2022 according to a report released by State Comptroller Thomas P.
