RAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (TCD) -- A 46-year-old man has been convicted in the 2022 shooting death of his wife that occurred during a confrontation with another man over cheating allegations.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office announced May 28 that a jury found Matthew Mollicone guilty of voluntary manslaughter, assault with intent to murder, and three counts of felony firearm. Mollicone faces up to life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 10.

On the night of July 12, 2022, Macomb County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a home on North Avenue. A male victim said Mollicone shot toward his house from a vehicle and that children were present during the incident.

Cheating accusations allegedly led to the shooting. Prosecutors said Mollicone and his wife went to the scene "to advise the male victim to stop having contact with the defendant’s wife." Mollicone reportedly went up to the male victim and "reached for a firearm in his waistband." The male victim reportedly tried to grab his gun and shot over Mollicone's head.

According to the prosecutor's office, gunfire broke out between the two men, and the male victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The man tried to run away from Mollicone, but the defendant kept firing toward him. Mollicone eventually went back to his car as the gunfire continued from both sides. As a result, Mollicone's wife was struck near her neck and died, authorities said.

Officials reportedly arrested the male victim, but he was later released.
