Galesburg girl wins Li’l Miss Illinois pageant
There she is, Li’l Miss Illinois. That person is Kynleigh Fox of Galesburg, who was recently named Li’l Miss Illinois 2024 through the Miss Illinois Youth Program. Fox, daughter of Stacy Dunham, took part in the pageant recently as Li’l Miss Knox County. Fox recently turned 9 years old and will be a fourth grader at Galesburg Christian School. Among the activities she was required to take part included a talent – she danced – and an interview. Fox aced it as she was named Overall Top Interview.
East Peoria teen wins national junior pool championship in St. Louis
But he picked up the game so fast he won a national title earlier this month. The East Peoria High School junior was crowned champion of his division at the 2024 American Pool Players Association National Junior Championships June 29-July 1 at the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel in St. Louis.

A slow-moving disturbance will keep up in and out of clouds and a few nuisance showers through Tuesday then a few more showers with a cold front on Wednesday. Severe weather isn’t expected but we could see a few cold air funnels Monday afternoon. These funnels aren’t associated with severe weather, and they rarely touch down. Full blown sun returns Thursday through the weekend, but humidity will be on the rise and highs will climb to near 90.

CHICAGO - Brookfield Zoo has announced the addition of several new animals, which includes emus, a sloth bear, and a puggle. In late June, three 3-month-old emus arrived at the Zoo. The one male and two females are adjusting to their outdoor habitat alongside kangaroos at Australia House. Emus, the second-largest birds in the world, are flightless and can sprint up to 30 mph, according to the zoo. The young emus have already gained 25% of their body weight in the past month.

Burlington man sentenced for attempted enticement of minor
A Burlington man was sentenced for attempted enticement of a minor. According to court documents, Corey Ritz, 48, engaged in a Facebook conversation with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. Ritz graphically described sex acts he would like to perform on the 15-year-old if they met in person. Ritz made plans to meet with her and suggested she bring another underage girl to their planned meeting. Ritz began communicating with a second undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. Ritz arranged to meet with the two minors in person in Burlington. Records show Ritz arrived at the in-person meeting and was arrested by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office. Ritz admitted to law enforcement that he was meeting a 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl for the purpose of sex.
