Four minors were in critical condition Thursday after a car chase ended in a crash, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Bibb County deputies responded to a 911 call just after 1:30 a.m. in reference to someone entering a car on Lamar Road. The 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer was reported stolen a day prior, according to the report.

A deputy tried to pull the car over during a traffic stop, but a 17-year-old driver sped up and led deputies on a chase down Mercer University Drive, the release said.

A Georgia State Patrol officer joined the chase and performed a precision immobilization technique, commonly referred to as a PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle.

When the state trooper hit the stolen car, the car crashed into a utility pole on Mercer University Drive and Burton Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The 17-year-old driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended,” the media release from the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies approached the vehicle, they found 10 passengers inside.

Paramedics treated a 17-year-old girl who was later reported in stable condition.

The other eight passengers had to be “extracted” from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Two 13-year-old boys, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were in critical condition Thursday afternoon after being flown to a children’s hospital in Atlanta.

An 11-year-old boy was still in a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday, the release said.

Three other teen passengers ages 12 to 14 years old were taken to a Regional Youth Detention Center and charged with theft by receiving stolen stolen property and entering auto.

The driver was also arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

The incident was under investigation. Deputies urged anyone with information related to the incident to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
