A Macon burger joint that opened in January wants to feed as much of the community as possible Tuesday.

Bear Burgers at Mercer Village will be providing a free lunch to anyone who can’t afford one. The new restaurant announced via social media that it will provide the free lunch as part of Macon Love Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

“Our family is committed to using our businesses and resources to make a positive impact in our city,” said owners Jonathan and Stephanie Keene.

The post said the restaurant would have its regular menu available for those who wish to purchase their meal, and free food available for those who can’t.

“We invite those that can afford to eat to join us for lunch, and those that can’t to come enjoy a FREE meal from our family to yours. We hope everyone will show up and help us make a difference and give love to our city. We love all of you and cannot wait to see you there! Please share so everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch regardless of their financial situation,” the post read.

Owner Jonathan Keene also shared a Facebook video asking people to spread the news.

Bear Burgers first opened earlier this year after taking Nu Way Weiners’ spot on Montpelier Avenue in Macon’s Mercer Village. The restaurant is a rebranding of Jonathan Keene’s previously Macon-owned restaurant called Keene’s Kafe, which was located on Thomaston Road.
