Georgia has one of the best music towns in the South, Garden & Gun says. Here’s where and why

Macon’s got the music. It’s true and even Garden & Gun thinks so.

In a recent story by the magazine , Macon was named one of the “Seven small but mighty music towns in the South.” Move over Nashville and New Orleans, am I right?

Macon was recognized for its music legacy, as it was home to several incredible musicians over the years, like Lucille Hegamin, Little Richard, Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers Band to name a few.

Macon’s Capricorn Studios (now known as Mercer Music at Capricorn ) was also a hot topic because it “details Macon’s layered music heritage.”

Garden & Gun also highlighted the childhood home of Little Richard in Macon as well as The Big House Museum and The Otis Redding Foundation Museum .

• Wilkesboro, North Carolina

• Leipers Fork, Tennessee

• The Shoals, Alabama

• Shelby, North Carolina
