Officials found the body of a man who went missing and drowned at Amerson River Park, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Dive Team and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources found the body of Daniel Romain, a 26-year-old from New Jersey, at 5:28 p.m. Monday, a day after he drowned.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the victim’s next of kin has been notified.
Emergency personnel responded to a 911 call made at 12:54 p.m. Sunday, to search for the man.
It is unclear what time the emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
Witnesses reported a man was swimming in the Ocmulgee River, but then “went under and did not return above water,” a press release said.
The fire rescue dive team stopped the search around 7:30 p.m., then picked the search back up at 8 a.m. Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident was still under investigation Monday. Deputies urged anyone with information related to the incident to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500.
