BOE sets millage rate hearings
The Madison County Board of Education has announced the dates for its three tax hearings to discuss next year's millage rates. The dates include Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 13 at 7:30 a.m. and Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. The last hearing will be followed by the BOE's regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Hearings will be held at the BOE office located at 800 Madison St., Danielsville.
Man reported missing found safe
A Madison County man, who was recently reported missing, has been found. On Monday, June 24, a woman on Homestead Road reported that her husband, Ryan Powell, whom she is divorcing had been staying with his mother on Hwy. 98 West, Danielsville, and on this date he sent her a text message threatening to harm himself.
Hull artist headlines AthFest
A Madison County recording artist was among the performers at AthFest this past weekend. Anthony Taylor Jr., known by his stage name Ant Da Ripper, represented Madison County on June 23 at the Hull Street Stage. The 36-year-old hip-hop singer, who was born in Athens and raised in Hull, has quickly become a prominent figure in the Athens music scene. His accolades include previous performances at popular events like the Wild Rumpus Parade and Hot Corner Festival. His song “Sick and Tired” with Cassie Chantel also won “Best Hip Hop Collaboration” at the Athens Hip Hop Awards last year. Throughout his work, he focuses on pushing musical boundaries by experimenting with innovative sounds and storytelling techniques.
Man receives self-inflicted gunshot wound
A man recently received a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Carlton biker bar. On Thursday, June 20, a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center where a nurse advised a man, identified as Curtis Andrew Walker, had a gunshot wound to the leg. The nurse stated the incident occurred at the Southern Knights Clubhouse biker bar on Hwy. 72, Carlton.
