National Weather Service confirms Tuesday tornado in Canastota; Oneida sees significant damage as well
MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. — Madison County officials provided an update late Thursday afternoon related to severe weather that caused damage in some areas on Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Binghamton (NWS) confirmed that the damage in Canastota is consistent with a tornado. NWS conducted a storm survey earlier and will release a final assessment later.
One found dead in Madison County after storm rolls through village
Canastota, N.Y. — One person was found dead Tuesday in Canastota after a storm with damaging winds rolled through the village. The storm carved a narrow path, leaving behind downed trees, homes with torn roofs, flipped cars and at least one garage that collapsed, said Jeremy Ryan, Canastota’s administrator.
