Canastota, N.Y. — One person was found dead Tuesday in Canastota after a storm with damaging winds rolled through the village. The storm carved a narrow path, leaving behind downed trees, homes with torn roofs, flipped cars and at least one garage that collapsed, said Jeremy Ryan, Canastota’s administrator.

Canastota, NY - Storm debris hit and killed an 82-year-old man trying to cover his classic car Tuesday during a powerful storm. Robert Popple, of Main Street, Canastota, was outside when he was killed by storm debris, Village Administrator Jeremy Ryan confirmed. Officials said they don’t yet know what hit him.
