Local man barely escapes car accident with life
Christian Peterson reporter.riverbendnews@gmail.com On Tuesday afternoon, July 2, Johnathan Quincy was in a terrible car accident. While driving on County Road 249 in Suwannee County, the 19-year-old Live Oak resident began hyrdoplaning. The incident took him off of the road and ended in his vehicle being totaled. Quincy was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Thankfully, Quincy survived, and he is now home safe with his family. “Johnathan is such a good kid. He is always respectful to others, a hard worker and our first born,” said Kelli Quincy, Johnathan's mother. “We are just thankful and blessed to have him with us still. Suspect in alleged arson case arrested in Jennings
Christian Peterson reporter.riverbendnews @gmail.com On Friday, July 5, at approximately 8:21 p.m., Deputy Jake Stephens responded to a call in reference to an individual throwing a Molotov cocktail into a Jennings residence. According to a report filed with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), as Stephens was heading to the home, he was told that the fire had been extinguished. Upon arriving at the scene, Stephens made contact with one of the individuals residing in the house. The individual took him to the incendiary device, which was a 22 ounce Heineken bottle with a blue microfiber rag coming out of the top. A closer look at the item revealed a fluid with a red tint. Water Street upgrade should begin soon

On Tuesday, June 11, the Monticello City Council approved a resolution acknowledging the receipt of increased funding from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the repaving of the street, which runs from U.S. 90 on the north to U.S. 19 on the southeast. The additional funding amounted to $102,421, bringing the total awarded for the project to $334,598, up from the $232,176 that was initially awarded to the city. Two Monticello girls win medals at YMCA nationals

Ella and Adalynne Parker of Monticello recently won several medals when they competed as members of the Thomasville Twisters gymnastics team in the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship, held June 22-24 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa. The championship event, which was first held in 1938, had a theme in 2024 of “Dream” and involved more than 4,000 gymnasts, family members and coaches from more than 75 YMCAs nationwide.
