“Outback Rock” coming to Mount Olive Baptist Church
Mount Olive Baptist Church will be enjoying “Outback Rock” for their Vacation Bible School, which begins on Tuesday, July 23 and continuing through Thursday, July 25. Each service begins with dinner at 6 p.m. All children ages pre-school through high school are invited to attend, and there will be plenty of Bible study, crafts and recreation for everyone to enjoy.

Car crashes into fallen tree in Madison County, one person 'seriously' hurt, FHP says
A sedan crashed into a fallen tree at Rocky Ford Road and Rocky Springs Church Road in Madison County late Tuesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The 34-year-old male driver and a passenger, a 61-year-old man, were headed northbound on Rocky Ford Road approaching the tree, unknowingly in the path of the vehicle. The passenger suffered "serious" injuries, the FHP said.
Popular Florida home hardening program stops taking applications weeks into new funding
TALLAHASSEE — The state has stopped taking new applications for a popular home-hardening program, less than a month after a new round of funding became available. The Department of Financial Services said online that funding has been “exhausted” for initial inspections in the My Safe Florida Home program. The program offers inspections and grants up to $10,000 to help residents upgrade homes and qualify for property-insurance discounts for residences valued up to $700,000.

New law will allow UNF more flexibility with its reserve fund
A new bill went into effect earlier this month that could change how the University of North Florida and other Florida universities use state funds. House Bill 707 was put into effect on July 1. The new law authorizes Florida’s state universities to “retain and report” annual reserve balances that exceed a specific amount. The bill also allows universities to include a reserve fund in their carry forward spending plans.
