City manager fires public works director

Water Street upgrade should begin soon

On Tuesday, June 11, the Monticello City Council approved a resolution acknowledging the receipt of increased funding from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the repaving of the street, which runs from U.S. 90 on the north to U.S. 19 on the southeast. The additional funding amounted to $102,421, bringing the total awarded for the project to $334,598, up from the $232,176 that was initially awarded to the city. Two Monticello girls win medals at YMCA nationals

Ella and Adalynne Parker of Monticello recently won several medals when they competed as members of the Thomasville Twisters gymnastics team in the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship, held June 22-24 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa. The championship event, which was first held in 1938, had a theme in 2024 of “Dream” and involved more than 4,000 gymnasts, family members and coaches from more than 75 YMCAs nationwide. Ella, age 13, has been doing gymnastics at the YMCA in Thomasville, Ga., for two years. This year she competed nationally for the first time, entering all four gymnastics events at Level 6 of the women's junior divi.
