BUFFALO – Today, July 26, 2024, New York State Senator Sean Ryan announced that a program he proposed in January to create safe and affordable rental units by rehabilitating dormant units is now rolling out across Upstate New York. ROME — Rome Mayor Jeffrey M. Lanigan and Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced new updates in Rome’s tornado recovery efforts at City Hall on Friday. They said the clean-up will take several weeks, and all city streets have been reopened except for the blocks in front of the damaged churches. They said they have given out $140,000 to more than 30 businesses from the Rome Emergency Business Fund, and just short of $750,000 from the Rome Victims Recovery Fund to roughly 279 residents so far. “We have a great community that has truly stepped up,” said Lanigan. “We’re going to keep moving forward, and I promise you we’re not slowing down.”
