BURKE, Wis. -- Monday marked the first day of the new month and the first day of new responsibilities for the Madison Fire Department, which will now provide fire prevention and protection services in the Town of Burke.

MFD has provided emergency medical services in the town since 2016. In the past, the Sun Prairie Fire Department has responded to fires in Burke. MFD's EMS services for Burke are currently housed in Station 11 at 4011 Morgan Way on the city's far east side.

Founded in 1852, the Town of Burke is set to be annexed by Madison, DeForest and Sun Prairie on Oct. 27, 2036. Under a 2007 agreement between Burke and the three larger municipalities, Madison will receive the lion's share of the town's current holdings. Sun Prairie will take over the northeast corner and DeForest would take over the northwest corner.
