    Roads reopen after Vondron Road building fire, MFD engine company to stay at scene overnight

    MADISON, Wis. -- Roads around the 2300 block of Vondron Road are back open following a reported explosion and fire at a building Tuesday.

    Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said an engine company would remain at the scene overnight to monitor for flare-ups.

    Fire investigators were also still at the scene, looking into the cause of the fire.


    PREVIOUS COVERAGE: The fire at a building in the 2300 block of Vondron Road was knocked down as of 4:30 p.m., Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said Tuesday.

    Crews were sifting through the scene, putting out hotspots, and were expected to remain on scene for several hours to make sure the fire can't rekindle.

    Fire investigators were working to identify the cause of the fire.

    Vondron Road was still closed between Pflaum Road and Mustang Way.


    Madison Fire said as of 2:30 p.m. firefighters continue to try to bring this fire under control.

    Madison Fire PIO Cynthia Schuster said large amounts of cardboard stored in the facility are believed to be fueling the fire.

    People are asked to avoid the area.


    The Madison Fire Department responded to a reported explosion Tuesday afternoon.

    The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 12:04 p.m. in the 2300 block of Vondron Road where fire crews said initial reports from 911 callers indicated the sounds of an explosion, followed by black smoke coming from the building.

    There were no reports of people in the building and no reports of injuries have been reported.

    Firefighters remain on scene and Vondron Road is shut down at Pflaum and Mustang.

    People are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
