FITCHBURG, Wis. -- The Madison Area Builders Association and the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County announced Thursday the "BLAZE: Girl Trailblazers in the Trades" summer camp, which will run from July 15-19 at the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center.

The MABA and Boys & Girls Club said the program is designed for female and non-binary high schoolers, aged 14-18, to explore the construction trades through hands-on experience and field trips. The camp's main attraction is building two full-size sheds, one of which will be auctioned off to support future programming.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the MABA and Boys & Girls Club said campers will visit multiple employers and discover careers like carpentry, electrical, interior design, architecture, siding, roofing, heavy machinery operation, and more. By providing a pathway for young women to construction, BLAZE aims to fill the industry's gender gap and demand for workers.

The MABA and Boys & Girls Club said the camp is free of charge, and will provide lunch and snacks to participants. Those who successfully complete the program will earn $50. Registration can be completed on the Boys & Girls Club's website .
