MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison announced Thursday it might pave and light part of its lakeshore path, and is requesting public input on the project.

UW said the "Temin Lakeshore Path Study" will look at potential impacts of proposed paving and lighting of the lakeshore path, which will run from Willow Creek to the UW Limnology Building. The study comes following reports of perceived safety risks for navigating the limestone gravel path at night.

When offering public input, UW said potential issues to consider include alterations to the environment and wildlife-related interactions, storm management and erosion, archaeological site disturbances, changes to character, winter management for pedestrian and bike access, and increased night use and undesirable activity in areas that are not easily accessible.

UW said the consultants are seeking public input through a survey link and at a public information meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, July 16, from 5-8 p.m. at the Memorial Union. The project does not currently include an environmental impact statement.
