MADISON, Wis. -- Madison Fire Department assisted several stranded drivers after a storm rolled through the Madison area Sunday.

The fire department reminded drivers to avoid flooded roadways and to not attempt to pass through flooded areas. Doing so may result in stalling your vehicle, becoming trapped in your vehicle and it increased the possibility of being swept away in flood water and drowning.

Here's where the following incidents occurred:

    • 7:41 p.m. Aberg Avenue & N. Sherman Avenue - Crews responded to this intersection to assist the driver of a mid-sized Sedan who drove into standing water. MFD said the vehicle was stalled out due to being flooded. Firefighters assisted the driver to the lawn of a nearby property. He was uninjured and did not need any other assistance.
    • 7:47 p.m. E. Johnson Street & Third Street - MFD responded to this location for a stranded motorist and a car stalled in the water. MFD said one car was in the middle of the intersection. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly standing outside the vehicle. The driver was rescued by crews and did not require EMS assistance.
    • 7:49 p.m. Ruskin Street & Aberg Avenue- Fire crews were dispatched to this intersection for a vehicle stalled in high water. Crews found multiple vehicles in the area that stalled for the same reason. One person was assisted out of the vehicle.
    • 7:49 p.m. Sherman Avenue and Windom Way- MFD responded for a vehicle who was stuck in a flooded roadway. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle.
    • 8:02 p.m. 1422 Northport Drive- Crews responded for a stalled vehicle in water. Upon arrival, flood water had receded away from the vehicle but the vehicle would not restart. The driver was uninjured and only needed assistance moving his vehicle.
    • 9:07 p.m., E. Johnson Street & Third Street- MFD responded to a vehicle for a stalled vehicle with people inside. Nobody was injured. They were assisted out of their vehicle through the passenger door window to dry land.
