    UnityPoint Health-Meriter opens application for surgical technologist program

    MADISON, Wis. -- UnityPoint Health-Meriter announced Tuesday applications for the surgical technologist program are now open.

    This program offers entry-level trainee positions and provides tuition for the two-year surgical technologist program through Madison College.

    Trainees will attend classes for 12 hours per week at Madison College and work eight hours per week at UnityPoint Health-Meriter.

    Surgical technologists trainees will perform the following duties:

    • Assemble and prepare necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies for various specialties based on understanding of surgical procedures
    • Anticipate and respond to the sequence of events and surgeon's intra-operative needs by handling instruments and preparing sutures.
    • Function as a second assistant during surgical procedures.

    The following qualifications are needed to be accepted into the program:

    • People who have been accepted and enrolled in the Fall 2024 Surgical Technology Associate Degree Program with pending completion in May 2026.
    • BLS certification within three months of hire.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served in the perioperative setting.
    • Knowledgeable in aseptic technique, scrub skills, anatomy and surgical procedures.

    Meriter provides participants with textbooks, lab materials, scrubs, compensation for classroom hours and eligibility of employment following graduation from the program.

    Applications are open until Friday and can be submitted on the UnityPoint Health website .
