MADISON, Wis. -- The Madison Metropolitan School District announced Wednesday it is the recipient of a Wisconsin Fast Forward grant, provided through the state's Department of Workforce Development.

The MMSD said the grant will help fund investments in advanced manufacturing equipment, geared for the district's career and technical education courses. Funds will go directly to the purchase of computer numerical control routers, laser cutters, and kits from VEX Robotics.

Following the purchase of the tools, the MMSD said students will have access to professional equipment used in real-world applications, spanning robotics, engineering design, and smart manufacturing. The CTE programs provide specialized training in a variety of in-demand, well-paying fields, and can help students make direct connections to jobs after graduation or build a foundation for further collegiate study.

The expansion comes after the 2020 referenda, which the MMSD said helped its schools upgrade their spaces, equipment, teaching, and learning in areas like transportation, technology and engineering, woods and construction, hospitality and health science.
