MADISON, Wis. -- A 44-year-old man was arrested for OWI Monday afternoon after he reportedly crashed into traffic lights.

Police said around 2:40 p.m. witnesses reported the driver of an SUV took out traffic lights and continued to drive northbound in the southbound lanes of S. Gammon Road. Police said the man got on the beltline and continued westbound.

At the Old Sauk Road exit, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, struck a guardrail and rolled the vehicle several times.

Police said a witness on the scene of the crash went to check on the driver and found him grabbing apparent drugs and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle and putting them into his sweatshirt.

The man allegedly admitted to ingesting cocaine and fentanyl and was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment.

The man was cited for numerous drug charges and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, hit and run and several other driving citations.
