MADISON, Wis. -- Red-Winged Blackbird Records announced mid-July former Madisonian Katie Powderly, a folk-Americana artist, will return to the city to teach a songwriting workshop.

In an effort to preserve music with American roots, RWBR said the workshop with Powderly exemplifies Red-Winged Blackbird Records' commitment to nurturing and celebrating the rich tradition of folk, country, bluegrass, and Appalachian music. Attendees will receive personalized feedback, education materials, and connections to other songwriters.

RWBR said the songwriting workshop is open to all skill levels, including those who have never written a song before. Attendees can improve their skills, learn new approaches to songwriting, and ask questions in real time.

RWBR said the workshop will be held on Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Muso Madison. Lunch will be provided from a locally-owned Madison restaurant. Advance registration is required.
