It's never too early to develop your child's palate for local food.

Hilldale (726 N. Midvale Blvd.) brings back its Tiny Diners series, which are family-friendly events that welcome children and their parents to eat dinner al fresco for $5 per kids ticket, with all proceeds benefiting Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin . From 5 to 7 p.m., families can pick up a takeout meal from one of Hilldale's participating eateries to enjoy on The Plaza , which is a seating area in one of the outdoor shopping center's main thoroughfares. The "fine dining" kids experience offers little ones an opportunity to try things like sushi from Muramoto, a dumpling from Dumpling Haus or maybe even a kid-version poke bowl from FreshFin.

The Tiny Diners event will take place on three Wednesdays this summer: July 31, Aug. 21 and Sept. 18. The July event will feature visits from Superman and Wonder Woman, as well as live music to encourage kids to get up and dance. For the August event, a mermaid princess will make an appearance. September's theme has yet to be announced.

All three events require pre-registration , and there are two ticketed time slots: 5 or 6 p.m.
