MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters and trappers the deadline to apply for a permit is Thursday.

The DNR regulates the harvest of bobcat and fisher through a permitting system. To receive a permit for one of these species a hunter or trapper must submit an application and be selected as a winner.

Hunters and trappers can submit an application through the Go Wild license portal or in person at a license sales location. The application fee for a bobcat permit is $6 and the application fee for a fisher permit is $3.

The drawing will occur in mid-August and successful applicants will be notified through their Go Wild account.

Winners must also purchase and possess the appropriate license before going into the field.

Applicants can apply entry into the drawing and can apply for a preference point only. Any applicant not selected during this year's drawing will be awarded a preference point towards future drawings.

People who do not apply for either a preference point or a permit at least once during any three consecutive years will lose previously accumulated preference points.

All first-time trappers must complete an approved trapper education, unless trapping under the youth supervised option, mentored trapping program, or other exemptions.

To learn more about the fisher and bobcat seasons, visit the DNR hunting and trapping websites.
