MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the UW-Madison Division of Extension announced Friday the public is invited to help search for aquatic invasive species across the state.

Aug. 10 marks "Snapshot Day," a day the DNR said is dedicated to protecting Wisconsin's streams, lakes, and wetlands by monitoring designated sites for invasive plants and animals that may threaten the state's natural water and wildlife ecosystems. Volunteer efforts are crucial to collecting this data.

The DNR said data collected during the event will help inform and guide management and control activities, as well as alert the DNR of any new invasive species that may have recently popped up in a particular body of water.

Come Snapshot Day, the DNR said v olunteers who sign up to participate will meet at a local training site of their choosing to learn how to identify invasive species before heading out to monitoring sites with event partners.

Register online by Aug. 9 to participate in Snapshot Day. All ages are welcome to search, but the event is recommended for ages eight and up. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
