MADISON, Wis. -- Phonak, a hearing-solution company, announced Tuesday it unveiled a new hearing aid powered by artificial intelligence.

Phonak said its new aid, dubbed "Aud é o Sphere," is the first hearing aid in the world to use AI and a deep neural network chip to separate speech from background noise. Aiming to solve the problem of background noise bleeding into existing hearing aids, the new aid brings a heightened level of voice clarity and speech understanding.

Phonak said it used around 22 million sound samples to train Aud é o Sphere to differentiate a person's voice in conversation from any form of background noise. The technological advancement in signal processing gives hearing aid users unprecedented speech understanding, from all directions, in virtually any environment.

Available in two different forms, Phonak said its new aids cover a range of hearing needs. The Aud éo Paradise hearing aids are for mild to profound hearing loss, with features like speech understanding and personalized noise cancellation, while the Aud éo Lumity hearing aids act as a personalized bluetooth microphone to make conversations clearer.

Phonak's website offers the hearing aids in multiple colors, including pink, green, black, grey, brown, and beige.
