All-City Swim Meet makes waves in, out of pool

MADISON, Wis- If swimming was on your mind during this week's hot temperatures or maybe watching the Olympics -- you're not alone. The All-City Swim and Dive Meet brought all of Madison's city league pools together.

"Our meet theme this year is courage, competition and community united in 10 lanes," co-host Megan Spicer said.

As Olympic swimmers took to the 10 lanes in Paris over 2,000 future Olympians took to the 10 lanes of the Shorewood Hills Pool.

The All-City meet brings together the 13 Madison league pools for a diving meet at the beginning of the week then a swim meet to end the week.

"We had our 11 and up swimmers swim all the individual events today, and then tomorrow we will have our younger swimmers swimming all their individual and their relays, and then the nine and 10 relays and up will be on Saturday, and that's when we will have all of our championship heats." Spicer said Thursday.

But for the past almost two decades this event has been making waves outside of the pool.

The All-City League partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank since 2008 and has provided over 2 million meals to the food insecure.

This year, Spicer said they're on track to donate $78,000 to Second Harvest.

A 62-year legacy and impact worthy of Olympic gold.

"This is much more than just a swim meet, this is really, truly a community event," Spicer said.
