MADISON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – As he nears the end of his time as the 69th Mountaineer mascot, Mikel Hager was recognized in his hometown of Madison.

On April 6, the Madison Development Authority hosted a community event and reception at Scott High School to highlight Mikel’s accomplishments as the Mountaineer mascot, the first from Boone County to serve as a representative of WVU and all of West Virginia.

Dozens of community members joined Scott High School students and others for the gold and blue celebration.

Hager, an exercise physiology major, has served as the 69th Mountaineer mascot during the 2023-24 academic year.

He will officially pass the rifle to the 70th Mountaineer mascot , Braden Adkins from Richwood, during an April 26 ceremony at the Mountainlair.
