    Man injured when horse stepped on his leg rescued on Crooked River National Grassland, flown to Bend

    MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A man who suffered a broken leg when a horse stepped on it was rescued Friday afternoon on the Crooked River National Grassland and flown to St. Charles Bend, officials said.

    Jefferson County Fire and EMS responded around 1:30 p.m. to the area of Boyce Corral to assist a 50-year-old man with a broken leg, Deputy Chief of Operations Kasey Skaar said.

    Crew members hiked to the man, provided care and transported him to a landing zone for a LifeFlight helicopter, who brought him to the Bend hospital.

    Skaar said JCF&EMS had six personnel on scene and the was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
