Paige Vannorsdall, 27, of Madras was sentenced July 22 in the shooting death of her ex-husband Devyne Briggs, of Prineville.

Vannorsdall pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter, a Class A felony, on July 8. She was sentenced July 22 to 214 months, or almost 18 years in prison, with a minimum of 10 years being served. She will also serve 26 months post-prison supervision after her release.

On Dec. 16, 2022, Briggs was at Vannorsdall’s home in southeast Madras, when Vannorsdall shot him multiple times. They were married for five years beginning in 2015 before getting a divorce. Vannorsdall had sole custody of their son, who was 6 when the murder occurred.

Court documents state that Briggs and Vannorsdall were in a dispute over whether Briggs was fulfilling the terms of their court-ordered parenting agreement when the shooting occurred.

Vannorsdall was arrested and arraigned immediately after the shooting, and was originally charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Charges of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon were dismissed. Vannorsdall was also ordered to pay $2,570 in restitution, though the final restitution was not set.
