DCG Softball Falls to Carlisle At State
Dallas Center – Grimes softball played in their class 4A quarterfinal game on Monday afternoon against the pesky Carlisle Wildcats, and after giving five runs in the first inning, DCG was not able to find enough in their comeback losing by the score of 8-6. Carlisle moves to 35-8 on the year while DCG falls to 32-9.
4 From Perry Baseball Earn All Conference Recognition
All of the Heart of Iowa Conference baseball teams failed to reach the State Tournament. Perry finished tied for fourth and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Four Bluejays earned some sort of recognition on the All Conference team. Owen Myers was selected on the first team. Drake Levan appeared on the second team. Geren Kenney and Kain Killmer each received Honorable Mentions. Perry finished 6-8 in conference games. Levan and Myers each hit .308 and Kenney had a team high 6 RBI’s in contests featuring Heart of Iowa teams. It was a disappointing year for the conference as no one made it out of the Substate round. West Marshall took the conference crown going 14-0. Saydel was the only other team to finish above .500 at 11-3.
Tina Lutterman Steps Down as Perry Softball Coach
Perry softball will need a new voice for the first time in 15 years. Tina Lutterman has decided to step down from the position. Tina has already made the transition to Activities Director for Perry. The Jayettes just wrapped up a 10-19 cmpaign. The new role with the school made it impossible to do remain the head softball coach. She knew this was going to have to happen after she took the AD position back in June. Tina is excited for this new opportunity and is looking forward to: “Watch the interactions between coaches and players and strengthen that between them… and watching kids succeed.” Tina steps into the Activities position vacated by Katelyn Whelchel. The search is now on for a new Perry softball coach.
On to Iowa State Fair for Floyd and Chickasaw County Fair Queen, Others
The Floyd County Fair wrapped its five-day run Sunday (07.21), but for 2024 Charles City High School grad, Jada Litterer, her fair experience isn’t over just yet. The Floyd County Fair Queen will next compete to become the state fair queen next month at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.
Nebraska to host class of 2026 athlete Jayden McGregory this weekend
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are hosting a class of 2026 recruit this week. Jayden McGregory is an athlete for Valley High School in Des Moines, IA. McGregory will visit Lincoln on July 27 and then the Michigan Wolverines on July 29. The 6-foot-2 prospect is ranked as a four-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals. The athlete received the offer from Matt Rhule and the Huskers back in April. 247Sports ranks him the No.1 player in the state of Iowa and the No. 13 athlete nationally. Rare Remnant Prairie Found Near Ames
Researchers recently discovered what’s known as a “remnant prairie” at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station and they’re working to restore it. Remnant prairies have never been plowed or completely converted into non-native species.
