A Mississippi man was found dead after an hours-long standoff with police Sunday afternoon.

Officials with the Long Beach Mayor’s Office report that the standoff began with a domestic situation between the man, later identified as 43-year-old Justin Brown, and his parents.

Mayor George Bass told reporters that Brown reportedly started shooting in the house, where his parents were also present. The parents were able to leave the house without injury.

When officers responded to the call shortly after noon Sunday at Kurykendall Place in Long Beach, Brown reportedly came out of the house and began shooting at officers. Officers then exchanged gunfire with Brown, who then retreated into the house.

After multiple attempts by negotiators to contact Brown, SWAT teams entered the home, where they found Brown dead. It is unclear if Brwon was hit during the exchange of gunfire with officers.
