Mississippi man caught allegedly stealing copper wire from commercial business

A Mississippi man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stealing copper wire from a commercial business.

Montana Jack Davis, 39, of Brandon, was arrested by Rankin County deputies early Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, a deputy noticed a black 2011 Nissan Rogue appearing to be disabled on Highway 471 near Highway 25 around 5:15 a.m. Initially, the vehicle was unoccupied and showed no signs of suspicious activity, so the deputy logged the vehicle’s information and continued his patrol.

Later, the deputy returned to check on the vehicle and observed a man, later identified as 39-year-old Montana Jack Davis, emerging from behind a locked gate in a commercial area. Davis entered the vehicle and began driving north on Highway 471, where he was stopped by the deputy.

Inside the vehicle, the deputy found copper wires and tools commonly used in burglaries and copper thefts. Investigators revealed that Davis had burglarized a semi-truck trailer on the property, stealing several items, including a digital security camera and recording device. Further investigation linked Davis to two additional copper thefts in Brandon and one in Flowood.

Davis was arrested and charged with multiple counts of theft, burglary, and possession of burglary tools. Rankin County has seen a rise in copper thefts, and residents are urged to report any suspicious activity to local authorities at 601-825-1480.
