Two popular Mississippi restaurants open for nearly 20 years have announced that they will soon be closing after many memories and family celebrations.

On Tuesday, Fenian’s Pub in Jackson announced that they will be closing their doors after serving customers for nearly 28 years. On Wednesday, Basil’s Downtown announced that it will also be closing after serving customers for 19 years.

The owners of Fenian’s Pub posted on social media that they are “honored” to be the place where “friends gathered, memories were made, and the spirit of Jackson was celebrated.”

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us over the years,” the owners posted. “Your loyalty, laughter, and friendship have meant the world to us. Though this chapter is coming to an end, the memories we’ve shared will last a lifetime. Thank you for being a part of the Fenian’s Pub family.”

The owners of the Irish Pub on East Fortification Street said the decision to close had nothing to do with things happening in Jackson.

“Nothing to do with the city or anything else of the sort,” the owners posted on Facebook. “Belhaven is a great place to be right now and a lot of good things are happening around here. Just time for us to move on to other things! We appreciate all the support and kind words! We’ll miss all (ok…most) of you!”

Fenian’s will be closing on Sept. 10.

Owners of Basil’s, the restaurant known for its paninis and pastas, offered similar sentiments about their customers.

“A bit of housekeeping…………..Ya gotta know when to hold ‘em’ …. And (more importantly) when to fold ‘em. That being said ……….Basil’s Downtown will be shutting its doors for good on Friday, September the 13th,” owner Michael Laskin wrote on Facebook. “Thanks for all the love, support, and friendship you’ve all afforded to us the last 19 years. It’s been a wild ride, and an honor serving you, our most important asset.”

Saying “it has nothing to do with the things that are happening in the city” and also saying “know when to hold them and when to fold them” are contradictory. It’s absolutely about the struggles of keeping the doors open, whatever that may be.
