Mississippi authorities continue to search for a suspect who led officers on a chase after crashing into a deputy’s car and then fled into a wooded area after a fiery crash into a light pole.

The Natchez Democrat reports that Adams County Sheriff’s deputies and Natchez Police officers were searching a wooded area near Lower Woodville and Saragossa roads in South Adams County late Thursday night into Friday morning.

The incident began around 9 p.m. at the Susie B. West apartments, where the suspect hit the deputy’s vehicle and took off. Natchez Police officers quickly pursued the suspect, who later crashed his vehicle into a light pole on Lower Woodville Road near Saragossa. After the crash, the suspect abandoned the car and fled into the nearby woods, according to Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten.

The suspect’s car caught fire upon impact with the light pole. Natchez Fire Department firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze and remain on the scene. Additionally, workers from Southwest Electric Association responded to address downed power lines caused by the crash.

A manhunt involving ACSO deputies and NPD officers is currently underway. The Natchez Democrat will provide updates as more information becomes available.
