Jackie Reed, a seasoned driver with FedEx Freight from Mississippi, was crowned the Bendix Grand Champion at the 2024 National Truck Driving & Step Van Championships, held from August 21-24 in Indianapolis. Reed’s victory, announced today by the American Trucking Associations (ATA), highlights his remarkable career spanning 34 years and three million accident-free miles.

Reed triumphed over 421 other top drivers from 49 states, all of whom brought nearly 685 million combined accident-free miles to the competition. His skill, precision, and unwavering commitment to safety set him apart in what is often called the “Super Bowl of Safety.” In addition to his overall win, Reed also took first place in the tank truck vehicle class, further solidifying his status as an elite driver.

“Jackie demonstrated the precision and professionalism we have come to expect from NTDC champions,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. “He separated himself from even this elite field, showcasing the skills that have led to his long, successful, and safe driving career.”

Reed’s achievement at this year’s championships adds to his growing list of accolades, including being named Mississippi’s Grand Champion in the 3-axle category in 2022.

While Reed was the star of the event, the competition also honored other top performers, including Todd Gimpel of Nebraska, who was named the 2024 Rookie of the Year, and the state of Colorado, which was recognized as the team champion.
