Magoffin women named in federal drug indictment
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — Two Magoffin County women have been named in a federal drug indictment handed down last week. Minnie Johnson, 60, and Jennifer Fletcher, 44, both of Salyersville, are the only two defendants who have been publicly identified in the case. The identities of one or more additional defendants remain under seal, indicating they are not yet in custody.
TWO ARRESTED ON ELK CREEK
ELK CREEK – Two were arrested Saturday night after a traffic stop led to police finding a large amount of methamphetamine. According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy W. Lafferty was on patrol on June 22 when he observed a black KIA Optima pulling out of Eddie Adams Road at a high rate of speed, leading him to activate his emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop.

Long delays on KY 3337 Thursday, Friday, and Monday
JACKSON, Ky. – Drivers who use KY 3337 (Right Fork of Licking River) in Magoffin County should prepare for long delays on Thursday, Friday, and Monday, June 27-28 and July 1. Drilling to repair a break in pavement will take place at milepoint 0.15, just north of KY 378.

Grand jury releases indictments
SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County grand jury released the following indictments on Thursday, June 20:. Clarence Wayne Gipson, 50, of Allen Drive, in Salyersville, is charged with two counts of third-degree burglary (Class D felonies) and two counts of first-degree criminal mischief (Class D felonies). According to the indictment, on or about March 23, 2024, Gipson allegedly entered or remained unlawfully in Hometown Ace Hardware and Smokin’ Grub, and intentionally and wantonly defaced or damaged property owned by both businesses, causing pecuniary losses totaling over $2,000.
