Permanent pause on plans for regional airport near Oskaloosa
(Radio Iowa) – After 14 years of legal wrangling, plans for a 30 MILLION dollar regional airport between Pella and Oskaloosa are officially paused. In 2012, elected officials in Pella, Oskaloosa and Mahaska County signed an agreement creating the South Central Regional Airport Agency to build and operate an airport in rural Mahaska County. Landowners at the site objected and filed a lawsuit. Mahaska County Supervisors who took office in 2017 tried to get the county out of the deal and there was a lawsuit over that.

Oskaloosa - Mahaska Comprehensive Park System Vision Plan
The city of Oskaloosa partnered with the Mahaska County Conservation Commission and Iowa State University's Community Design Lab to develop a comprehensive parks vision plan. This plan includes a complete inventory and assessment of existing parks, open spaces, and trails. This initiative aligns with the city’s goal of highlighting community amenities and establishing development strategies to improve recreational facilities. The plan aims to enhance the experience for residents and visitors while promoting economic development. Efforts to enhance the parks system in Oskaloosa are directly aligned with the City's FY24-26 Strategic Plan, particularly goal 1.4: Promote arts, culture, and recreation amenities and opportunities. Funding for this plan was provided jointly by the city, the Mahaska County Conservation, and a grant from MidAmerican Energy.
Mahaska County man charged with possessing child pornography
OSKALOOSA, Iowa — A Mahaska County man is in jail Tuesday night, accused of downloading and possessing child pornography. The sheriff's office says it was contacted by the Department of Justice's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force last week. This led to the sheriff's office executing a search warrant at a Barnes City home.
Farmland Lease and Management Workshop, Mahaska County
Mahaska County’s Farmland Lease and Management Workshop will be held on August 1. The Iowa State University Mahaska County Extension and Outreach office will host a meeting on Thursday August 1, beginning at 1:30 pm. with doors open at 12:30 pm. The location is at the Mahaska County Extension office located at 212 North I Street Oskaloosa. The meeting will last approximately 2 ½ hours and will be facilitated by Patrick Hatting, Farm Management Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
SCRAA to Consider Ending Pursuit of Regional Airport in Mahaska County, Resolve Public Complaints Today
The South Central Regional Airport Agency Board is holding two meetings back-to-back today in the Pella Public Safety Complex. The first is a work session with the Iowa League of Cities as it relates to Iowa Code Chapters 21 and 22. The SCRAA Board was found to have violated Iowa’s open meeting laws earlier this year by the Iowa Public Information Board after holding separate committee meetings from the main board without public access or notice.

On Tuesday, July 25, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the US Department of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Information was provided to the Sheriff’s Office by an investigator from the ICAC that led to the Sheriff’s Office executing a search warrant in Barnes City.
