NWS Says At Least 27 Tornadoes In Chicago Area On July 15th
During the evening hours of July 15, a well-organized and long-lived complex of thunderstorms rolled across Iowa, Illinois and parts of Indiana. Widespread damaging winds of 60 to locally 100 mph were observed within the line, especially from eastern Iowa, northern Illinois, and central Illinois. In addition, at least 27 occurred in the NWS Chicago County Warning Area.
Paxton Aquatic Wildcats win home meet over Gibson Area Swim Team
PAXTON – The Paxton Aquatic Wildcats defeated the Gibson Area Swim Team 259-171 on Monday. The Paxton girls won 175-68 while the GAST boys won 103-84. In the girls’ age 8-and-under 100-meter medley relay, Paxton’s Emma Doolen, Kinley Garrell, Reagan Loschen and Maci Stafford finished first with a time of 2:27.

Jordan Chapman hired as Paxton Park District’s recreation director
PAXTON – The Paxton Park Board approved the hiring of Jordan Chapman as the Paxton Park District’s recreation director during a special meeting held Monday. The St. Anne resident replaces Kayden Snelling, who resigned last May. Since Snelling’s resignation, the park board received 27 applications for the recreation director position.

Friday July 26th Afternoon Book Signing at Public Library to Focus on Historic Danville Softball Team
A look back on a special Danville softball team will happen this Friday (July 26th) when author Phyllis Smith will be at the Danville Public Library for an afternoon book signing. Smith’s book “Black Diamond, Black Gold; the Danville Lady Tomahawks” will look at a team of African American young ladies that her father, Wilbur Atkinson, created in the early 60s over at Lincoln Park. They immediately set up shop at Carver Park, where a field now sits named after Wilber Atkinson.
