Maine State Police investigate two crashes involving troopers
LEWISTON, Maine — Maine State Police are looking into two separate incidents where troopers' vehicles were struck. Just after midnight on July 19, a trooper was on his way to Gardiner to respond to a motor vehicle crash when he was hit on the Maine Turnpike in Lewiston. With emergency lights and the siren on, the trooper's cruiser was hit by a 2015 Ford pickup truck driven by 24-year-old Javier Martinez of Waterville. The pickup swerved into the trooper’s lane, causing minor damage to both vehicles. No one was hurt. Police discovered Martinez was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was summoned for operating under the influence and released pending a court hearing.
