MAINEVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — An investigation is underway after a fire and explosion broke out at an area Duke Energy substation.

Hamilton Township Fire and Rescue were dispatched Friday around 6 a.m. to the 8600 block of Butterworth Road in Maineville to Duke Energy’s Foster Substation. Crews responded for an explosion and fire at the location.

According to a Duke Energy spokesman, “equipment failure” caused the incident to occur at the site.
