Youth Nab Titles at Bob Hines Swine Classic
More than 100 Kansas youth from 32 counties exhibited 250 pigs in the 2024 Dr. Bob Hines Swine Classic this month in Manhattan. Youth had the opportunity to compete in a skillathon contest, photography contest and showmanship, in addition to prospect and market hog classes. Scott Dean, Lisco, Nebraska, judged showmanship as well as the prospect and market shows.

Seven Injured in Crash in Derby
Seven people are injured following a Sunday morning car accident in Derby, KS. The accident happened around 11am yesterday when two vehicles waiting at a red light were struck from behind by a third vehicle. A total of four people were taken to nearby hospitals following the accident – two with critical injuries and two with serious injuries. No names have been released but the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that three of those hospitalized are children.
Arrest made after pursuit Monday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Monday at approximately 3:20 p.m., agents with the Department of Corrections Enforcement, Apprehension, and Investigation (EAI) Task Force located a wanted subject, James M. Smith, 36, of Hutchinson, near 11th Ave and Severance Street. Before they were able to make contact, Smith left the area in a vehicle and fled from officers with Hutchinson Police Department. Officers did not pursue Smith at that time due to Smith’s history of fleeing from law enforcement.
