Though hot pot restaurants are prevalent in the Duluth area, each tends to have its own idividuality. This new addition in Berkley Lake, takes its inspiration from Chongqing, a municipality within China's Sichuan province. It is named "Xi Hotpot" and the name "Xi" means "light.

The menu centers around classic Sichuan flavors such as Mala (numbing spicy), and iconic ingredients such as fresh-cut meat and a variety of offal. Unlike some of the more mainstream hot pot eateries in the area, Xi Hotpot, features many offal items like duck intestines and pig brains. Though for our meal we stuck to more traditional items ike beef and lamb.

Another difference between this hot pot restaurant and others is that you must order everything on iPads. There are servers who are floating around if you need anything, but the main process is to order on the iPad. You start by ordering two different types of broth as your base and then picking meats / vegetables and some sides. We got a spicy beef for one side and a mushroom base. For our meats some beef and lamb, plus some shrimp balls too. We also had some greens (to be healthy).

Rather than an individual choosing their own broth and protein, this hot pot restaurant is more for sharing. Though we all enjoyed the broths the beef (ordered medium) was a bit too spicy. We also took full advantage of the bibs offered to us, and you may want to do that as well!

Currently there is no liquor license, so customers can BYOB, but they do have some interesting non-alcoholic drinks to try like Grapefruit tea and plum juice.
